Ever felt like this?
Today I happened across a video showing a halftime celebration honoring the 1991 NBA Champion Chicago Bulls. (awesome video. totally worth checking out)
While watching I was transported back into the days of my youth watching Michael Jordan and the Bulls and just knowing in my soul that I was going to be a basketball star.
I was so passionate about the sport that I even used to sleep with my basketball in the bed with me. (don’t judge me) I really thought that I would make it to the NBA.
To make a long story very short, that didn’t happen. It was an early experience with failure that was devastating for me at the time.
I was reminded that me and failure go back like Lazer Tag and Alf reruns. I don’t say this as a source of pride. (trust) And each failure at the time felt like the end of the world as I knew it.
Along the way there have been other equally devastating experiences with failure that have helped to shape and define my life. I now realize more or and more that More >

Sometimes, when tragedy hits, its easy to sweep it under the rug of our minds if it didn’t “directly effect us.” This isn’t cool at all. In case you don’t know it, we are all in this thing together. I decided to make a video about it.

Interview with Jennifer Zezsut – Chief Social Strategist at Lithium – part 1
Mar 10th

I caught up with Jennifer Zezsult at the Monitoring Social Media Event that took place on October 22nd, in San Francisco, CA. (I know its late. Don’t judge me, I just found it!) Jennifer is the Chief Social Strategist at Lithium, a leading provider of Social CRM solutions to power the customer network.
It was funny because when I met her we were both probably the last two people in line for lunch and got to talking. I found out she was going to be on a panel later and had just sold her company. She was so nice and agreed to let me interview her later on that day.
During the interview we talked about a bunch of stuff like social media monitoring, the role of sentiment and how she built and sold her old company. Jennifer is nice as hell and smart as a whip.
So later on that day I Google’d her and found out that that company she sold was Scout Labs and the amount was around $22.5M. (wowsers). This is part 1 of a 2 part interview.

How To: Build Real Relationships With (gasp) Automated Tweets
Mar 9th

I hope this post causes a stir. To me those are the best kinds. Social media is such a fertile ground for debate and disagreement about how to use it effectively. One practice is acceptable by the few and deemed “shady” by the masses. To me, it all depends on who you are and WHY you are using any particular tactic.
The question might be asked “how can anything automated form a relationship?” My response: Watch the video.
This tactic may get the purists upset but it will make the newbies and the clueless very happy. And that’s my main concern. (although this one is pretty cool for the purists who wanna jump on the bandwagon)
Check it out (I even did a VIDEO…bout time):
(click on video if it is too small)*While this is a great way to get the relationship started, there will be some additional work needed to make your relationships grow. (just like in real life folks) Real relationships take time to cultivate and nurture. But this can be a great way to get the ball rolling and works well so if you like it, give it a try.

How To: Target Your Audience More Effectively
Mar 9th
Reading time: 2 – 2 minutes
Are you hitting YOUR target?
Audience targeting is crucial. That’s the best way to describe it. Let me illustrate the point. Imagine you are just finished a long day at work. Everything that could have gone wrong did go wrong. You feel the headache coming on.
Then you remember that you have to rush across town to pick up your kids before 4:30pm (or else you have to pay the school an extra fee for the month. No thanks.) You pick up the kids and realize that you haven’t gone shopping for groceries and you have a small army to feed. By now the headache is a full on jackhammer pounding away at your cranium.
You pull up at the grocery store and head straight to the isle with all of the magical medicine pills. Imagine you see all of the medicine displayed there before you. You see the Tylenol, Bayer, Advil and Excedrin.
Then you look and you see a large red jar labeled “medicine.” Now let me ask you, what are the chances of you picking up the bottle labeled “medicine?” Slim chance, right? While it’s probably true that the “medicine” can cure your pain, the fact More >
