Dream Big Or Die Slowly
Reading time: 2 – 2 minutes
This post is for my big dreamers. It’s for those who cannot help but to feel like they can/should accomplish more or have a life of purpose. You may wonder why that feeling is unshakable? Or why you have this deep seeded desire to try. Don’t be alarmed people because you are not alone.
We ALL have felt the pull to do some great thing and anything else but its accomplishment to causes you great discomfort. When you are not trying to do it you can feel it. It causes you to question and re-question your current job choice(s). Call it what you want to (I like to call it the call of destiny, but again, I too am a big dreamer) I have news for you my friend. That feeling will NEVER go away. EVER.
For the most part we are allowed to hold onto our dreams as children but then we “grow up.” Slowly but surely we learn that to dream is foolishness. We see that our lot in life is to work to make ends meet. Nothing wrong with that. The problem is that we are told that it is the ONLY way.
To make matters worse, when someone does dare to head down the road less traveled, we put them to shame with our incessant chatter about being “impractical” and write them off as hopeless dreamers. Its like people are not happy until your dreams are crushed into nothing so that you can join them, tail tucked between your legs and be a part of their “real world.”
The funny part is, most of the dream killers (as I like to call them) have never so much as taken one step in the direction of their own dreams. The sad reality is that most people would rather have you miserable with them to to achieve your goals. Hence the phrase, “misery loves company.”
Each day that you traverse on a path in the opposite direction of your dreams you will die a little inside. I’m serious. I’ve been there myself. I worked in a serious of “good jobs” in corporate America and though the pay was good and the prestige was nice I was NEVER happy. Each day I wondered just WTF I was doing there and so one day I said “ENOUGH.” And that, my friends, was that.
Now I would love to tell you that as a result everything turned out fine and I lived happily ever after but the truth is that my story is still being written. Even this post is another chapter in a life that continues to unfold. I expect a LOT out of life and so should you.
I know that many of you have responsibilities and bills and blah, blah f*cking blah. I don’t want to hear that. As a matter of fact, I’m not talking to you. I am talking SPECIFICALLY to the people who are tired of making excuses and are ready to start living their dreams. I’m here to let you know that you CAN do it, it WILL be just fine and you are GONNA be whole hell of a lot happier for having made the change.
I would encourage you to find out what your dream is first. Then make a plan to start moving in that direction. It doesn’t have to be perfect yet. You can revise it as it becomes necessary but for goodness sake do SOMETHING. A journey of 1000 miles begins with the first step. So gets to steppin.
In this life, you can either dream big or die slowly. The choice is yours. Why not choose to dream big?
