Reading time: 2 – 2 minutes

Blogging can be your very best friend OR your worst enemy depending on how you approach it. Trust me, I am fully aware of how frustrating it can be to try and sit down to write and then have my brain go completely blank.

This can suck especially when you have made a commitment to producing high quality posts that will not only establish you as an authority but will also serve to really help add value to people’s lives.

It would be less of an issue if you had all day long to mull over your writing but the truth of the matter is that we all lead very busy lives.  And to keep it even more real with you, not everyone even likes to write in the first place. When you mix that with a mind that doesn’t seem to want to cooperate with us it can dissuade us from writing one post let alone blogging with consistency.

Believe it or not you CAN get your blogging done relatively quickly (30 minutes, tops) Here are a few tips that can help you get ‘er done:

1) Take a day and come up with topics for your blog. Inspiration can come from anywhere. Think about recent conversations you’ve had, TV shows you have watched or books and article that you have read. (you’d be very surprised where good topics can come from) Come up with 8 to 10 solid topics and get started on one.

2) Just start writing. Don’t worry about the what you are writing or if it even makes any sense at time. Its funny how when you just get in the writing mode how ideas can suddenly be transferred from your brain to your fingers. You can always edit later.

3) K.I.S.S. – Oh you’ve heard of this acronym before, eh? Think it stands for Keep It Simple Stupid? WRONG! (Good try though) In my example it actually stands for, Keep It Short Stupid. You don’t have to write a novel here. Again, remember that the key is to get your point across quickly and efficiently. This can be done in 450-500 words.

4) Think about questions that people have in your business and answer those. One thing that I know for a fact is that people in any business generally have the same questions or objections to any product or service. Since you hear these often, why not write a solution as a blog post? Few things will go further to boost your credibility than to anticipate and answer an objection that has not yet been voiced.

5) Write a lil sum sum and come back to it. Who says you have to get everything done in one sitting? Its perfectly fine to walk away from your writing and come back to it when you are feeling more creative. (just make sure to come back!) Trying to force things can lead to more frustration bouts of yelling at your computer screen. (uh, so I’ve heard)

6) Spend a fixed amount of time writing during each sitting. Trust me, you will drive yourself crazy if you attempt to continue writing past the point of your own creativity and productivity. It’s not like you don’t have other things to do. Come back to your blog and continue to write at another time with the intentions of spending a fixed amount of time writing again. 30 minutes is a good amount of time to allot yourself.

7) Beware of distractions. It’s much easier to get to writing when you have your phone turned off, your Facebook alerts on silent, the TV off, have already eaten, and are in a relaxed state. (sounds impossible but just give it a try)

In closing I want to state that there is no magic fix to finding more time to blog BUT with a little work and the right mindset, it doesn’t have to be a mind-numbing chore.
