Don't you agree?
Yo, yo, yo! (Yep…that’s how I’m greeting you today) In case you were unaware, I LOVE reading and learning about whats new and cool in the world of social media. Things in the space move extremely quickly and every single day there is something new happening.
But for many small businesses out there, the massive amount of info available makes it a confusing landscape. I talk to lots of business owners and the first thing many of them ask me is “WHERE DO I GET STARTED!!” (The capital letters means they are yelling at me…people like to yell at me for some reason…go figure)
Now in response to this question I tend to stray a bit from my contemporaries. Many social media consultants that I know will tell you that the first thing that you need to do is to start campaign to start “listening” to what people are saying about your company online. You can use some pretty simple tools to do this. But, if you are a smaller business who is just now trying to transition yourself online More >

This interview should have been up ages ago but I have been extra backed up with things. (lame excuse…check) Anyway, I had the opportunity to attend a really cool event in San Francisco, a while ago and meet some pretty cool people. One of said people was a gent by the name of Giles Palmer who is the CEO of ac company called Brandwatch. In case you didn’t know, Brandwatch is a social media monitoring tool. We chopped it up (that means we talked… for you uncool peeps) for a little bit about social media monitoring and how he started Brandwatch among other things. Check out the interview:
It’s All About ‘Monitoring Social Media’ (the event that is)
Oct 20th

Its conference time again! It’s a glorious time because I get to do one of my favoritest things on earth: LEARN. Then I get to do one of my second favoritest things on earth: TEACHING what I have learned to any and all who will listen!
Well, guess what people? I’m getting the opportunity to do both at the ‘Monitoring Social Media‘ conference happening tomorrow Thursday, October, 21st. The conference will be held at the The Box SF in San Francisco CA.
It has become increasingly important for brands to monitor conversations being had about them online. This event promises to bring out the big dogs in the world of social media, PR, and marketing to talk about the latest trends, ideas, techniques and best practices in social media monitoring.
The day will be filled with a number of panels as well as speaker presentations all exploring the theme of social media monitoring. We will be bringing you one on one video interviews with the speakers, presenters and panelists for their input on the topics discussed.
This looks to be an exciting and informative event and I feel lucky to be attending. But don’t worry, I will send you all the video More >
Losing the Biff Tannen Approach to Marketing
Oct 16th
Reading time: 2 – 2 minutes
Please tell me you’ve seen the “Back To the Future” movie trilogy. If you haven’t, you have missed out! That is some seriously classic filmmaking right there. (I recommend watching at least part 1 for your next Netflix night.)
One of my favorite characters was the bully Biff Tannen. Biff to me encapsulates many of us as we scamper down the road to online marketing mastery. We may come off as big, bad and confident but we are scarcely able to hide the fact that we are actually hopelessly clueless. And when someone does approach us with some tips that can greatly improve our businesses we can sometimes be less than enthusiastic.
There is a scene from Back to the Future part 2 where Old Biff goes back in time and meets up with a younger version of himself, Young Biff. For those of you who have not seen the movie, I will set the scene. Old Biff has gone back in time to give Young Biff a sports almanac from the future so that he will be able to place bets on nothing but winners making him a wealthy man in the process.
