The Power of Giving

I like this post topic. I really, really do. I want to share with you a concept that is not only extremely powerful but also incredibly simple as well. Any business can incorporate it, make it a focus, and see immediate benefits but, sadly, not to many do.
As a matter of fact, in today’s business environment, its use can often be seen with much cynicism and yet this does not take away from its power or effectiveness. Are you loving the suspense yet? (or is it plainly obvious because of my post title…either way, act surprised) With out further ado, in order to unlock this “magical” wonder-concept, all you have to do is…give. Ta-da!!!! Seriously. That’s it, that’s all. Nothing more to see here folks…
When it comes to your business (or your life to be honest) giving, and especially giving value should be a rule of thumb.
Why Should You Give?Giving seems to be a hard concept for a lot of us to embrace because it goes against a lot of the rules of how we normally think business should be done. We More >

“The Journey of a Thousand Miles Begins with a Single Step” -Lao Tzu
Yep. We’re kicking it off with quotes today. I’m feeling very “quotatious” like my man Shaquille O’Neal’s Twitter page. You gotta admit, this is a pretty cool quote and sooo true. I spend a good part of my life these days talking to small business owners and entrepreneurs want to really learn how to be successful in using the internet to market their products or services and even themselves. Most need help and know it but there is a pretty common problem sometimes.
Getting Started is the Hard PartLet me illustrate something for you. Have you ever had a situation where you had ton of stuff to do and didn’t know where to start? (Of course you have. Its called being a grown-up) Or maybe you have had so many different decisions to make that you got overwhelmed. How did you react in this situation? For those of who said that they rose to the occasion and got it all done, great for you. (freaking overachiever!) Be honest though, many times when have our backs up against the wall, we end up doing…nothing. More >
Authentic vs. Perfect – Keeping It Real with Your Online Audience

You have to love this period that we are living in. Things have changed so much in terms of acceptable business practices and even how we communicate as business people. Nowadays, you are just as likely to get hit up from a client on Twitter as you are by email or cell phone.
The expectation in the minds of customers towards businesses has changed as well. Gone are the days of the silent consumer who are forced to eat up every marketing message shoved down their throat. Now, the audience has been given a microphone and is not at all afraid to use it.
Don’t Forget To Be HumanBut let’s not forget that our audiences, contrary to popular belief, are human. And human beings are wired to detect falseness and insincerity. This being the case and with the changing of the times we are starting to expect the brands that we interact with to keep it real. We expect them to tell us the truth no matter what. We are angered when they forget that we now live in a new information age where facts are readily available it is increasingly difficult to lie to us anymore. More >
If You Aren’t an Expert, You Are Hopelessly Clueless

So…Do you like the title of this post? I do. It really tickles me for some reason. Well anyway, today let’s talk about branding. More and more small biz owners and entrepreneurs are asking me what is the most important thing that they can do for the their businesses online. I tell them without blinking, “brand yourself and your company as experts in your field.”
There are many, many benefits to gaining ‘expert’ status. The main one is this: There are TONS of other businesses that do what you do. How in the world are you going to differentiate yourself from them all? (hint: the answer is to become an expert) Experts are “go to guys” in their industries; people seek THEM out when they have questions. When they talk, people listen. What could be better, right?
The Reason People Love ExpertsI really don’t care how knowledgeable you are on the subject you are seeking to become an expert in. Being an expert in more a matter of perception than it is of reality. This is what most people will NOT tell you. The reason people love experts is because they seem to possess a storehouse More >
Use Twitter for Marketing But Don’t Lose Your Soul

Since its inception in 2006 Twitter shot to prominence in the world of social media and quickly opened up a new world of communication for people worldwide. Suddenly, it was all the rage to ask and find out the answer to the question “What are you doing?”
To some it seemed kind of lame but to others it showed the infinite possibility of real time communication in 140 characters or less. Unforgettable events like the 2008 Mumbai Terrorist Attacks and the Hudson Rive Plane Landing have shown us all how powerful Twitter can actually be.
Unfortunately, for all of the potential that has been manifested in Twitter (and surely there is plenty more that has yet to be discovered) there lies a dark and seedy underbelly. It is populated by some of the lowest forms of life known to man. You know them as Twitter spammers.
Spam on Twitter has gotten completely out of control. There is just no other way to describe it. When was the last time you have managed to go a day without being hit up with the latest way to “gain thousands of Twitter followers?” Or, my fave, “how to make a ton of money More >
