Reading time: 2 – 2 minutes
Your website, that is...
I’ve got news for some of you and you may not want to hear it. It pains me to have to do this but I have to keep it real. So here goes. Your website sucks. There, I said it.
For the vast majority, your first instinct might be to think “well, he is not talking to me…” Yep. You are exactly who I am talking to. I’m only telling you this because love you. (do you feel the love, man?) And I want what you want. I want people to be spend more time on your site, become targeted leads, and most of all BUY FROM YOU.
Think about it for a sec. Your website is your digital kingdom. It is your online abode. This is your introduction to the customer in many cases. How do you want them to respond to your site? What do you want them to do when they get there? If they are not ready to buy, how will they remember you for when they are? Is it obvious what your site is selling?

Welcome back. In part 1, we discussed why blog are important from a human psychology perspective. Blogs can establish you as an authority in your field and also keep people coming back to your site for more.
Now we will get into why blogging is important to your bizzy biz from a search engine optimization perspective.
You really have to give it to the guys at Google. From the very beginning they have been dedicated to building a search engine that will return the most relevant search results to people searching for information. To those of us who rely on Google on a daily basis, we give them many thanks. (NOTHING against the other search engines but for now, so goes Google, so goes search. Period point blank)
For those of us who also rely on SEO as a marketing strategy, we know that the single best strategy for effective search engine optimization is to just provide valuable information from jump street. Bada-bing, bada-bang, bada-BOOM! Problem solved. This includes a mix of healthy mix of relevant content and link building. And THESE are what a blog can provide so beautifully for your website.
Blogs can be thought of as personal More >
If You’re Not Blogging For Your Business Now, You’ll Hate Yourself Later (part 1)

Ok, ok. Hate is a strong word but seriously folks, you need to get a move on. The train is leaving the station and you don’t want to be left behind. You need to start blogging for your business TODAY!
I know what you are asking yourself right now. (I hope) Is a blog really THAT important for my biz? The short answer is yes. Yes it is. And now you’re probably asking yourself, “WHY?” Great question. There are a few answers but it really boils down human psychology and search engine optimization.
To make my point let me take you through a little example. Let’s say that you just got yourself a brand spanking new website designed. Now, were not talking about just any website here. This is the mother of all websites with all the bells and whistles. Pretty cool right? You are pretty excited about the whole thing.
The designer of your website, a smart and thoughtful young man, tells you to add a blog to the site and you agree BUT you think to yourself “who needs a blog? Just LOOK at this new website.” Your site goes live and you blog one time More >
I Want To Rank on Page One of Google!

“I really want to rank on page one in Google.”
Sigh. I was not expecting to have to beat this dead horse. (At least I thought it was dead. Hey, it wasn’t breathing OR moving so I just assumed…) Now, granted, I did speak on this same topic not too long ago. But I have this feeling deep down inside that there may still be some of you who are unsettled. And to be even more specific, I am talking to people at three very distinct points in your business. The answer to you all is surprisingly similar. You:
1) have just gotten your website redesigned and want to REALLY want to apply this SEO thing you’ve heard so much about.
2) are thinking about updating your site and want to do everything possible to make sure it is found by prospective clients
3) You realize that what you are doing now isn’t working and you are desperate to find something that WORKS
To the first group:
I am going to (probably) be the first person to say this to you. Please don’t take it the wrong way. Your new website may be doing less to help you drive business than More >
SEO as a Marketing Strategy

I’m going to let you in on a little secret about myself. Here goes: I used to consult for an SEO firm. What does that mean? Well, it means that I used to cold call and try to get business owners to see how SEO could benefit their businesses.
It was a brutal, BRUTAL gig but I learned lots from doing it. The main thing that I learned was just how hopelessly clueless most people were when it came to marketing their business online. People I talked to usually landed in one of three categories:
1) WTF is SEO? (I don’t get it) 2) We tried SEO once and we got ripped off! You guys are all some slimy snake oil salesmen and I hope you DIE! 3) I want to get on the first page of Google TODAY!
I want to address each one of these because SEO is indeed important to your business. It should absolutely be incorporated to your online marketing mix. Over the long term it is one of the best ways to drive targeted traffic to you site.
Number 1 is funny because that response is more common than you think. Almost every business More >
